Republicans praised Scalia for his experience in both the public and private sector. “Business and workers need a secretary of labor who will steer the department with a steady hand. I believe Mr. Scalia has those skills,” said Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., the chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. But some Democrats criticized Scalia’s record as a lawyer for big business. “Instead of nominating a secretary of labor, president Trump has nominated a secretary of corporate interests,” said Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash.
