Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., questioned Marie Yovanovitch, the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, in a public hearing as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. In his questioning, Swalwell tried to connect the actions of Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal lawyer, with the president’s own actions. Swalwell said Giuliani was working on behalf of his client, Trump, in Ukraine. Yovanovitch has testified that she was forced out of her position after Giuliani engineered a smear campaign against her. The impeachment probe centers around a July phone call in which Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
