Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Ala., questioned Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, on Nov. 20 in a public hearing as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. Sewell asked Sondland if everyone in the chain of command knew about Trump's personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani's efforts to get the investigations into the Ukrainian company, Burisma. "The president directed us to work with Mr. Giuliani," Sondland said. "And the leadership of the State Department were knowledgeable, as was the [National Security Council], that we were working with Giuliani." Sewell pressed Sondland on whether he knew if the "mission was accomplished," regarding the investigations. "All I can testify to is what I know that Mr. Giuliani told me directly" or told to others, which was then relayed to him, he said.
