Rep. Adam Schiff, the chair of the House Intelligence Committee, pushed back against Republican assertions that Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, did not have evidence that President Donald Trump directed a quid pro quo in relation to Ukraine. “My colleagues seem to be under the impression that unless the president spoke the words, 'Ambassador Sondland I am bribing the Ukrainian president,' that there is no evidence of bribery,” Schiff said. Schiff said the only reason the deal that Ukraine investigate the 2016 election and the Bidens in exchange for U.S. aid did not occur, was because Trump “got caught.” Sondland testified on Nov. 20 as part of the impeachment inquiry into Trump.
