There are important differences between a president and a king, despite President Donald Trump’s claims that Article 2 of the Constitution gives him protection from criminal prosecution, Pamela S. Karlan, a Stanford law professor, testified during a Dec. 4 House Judiciary Committee hearing. “I’ll just give you one example that shows the difference between him and a king, which is the constitution says there can be no titles of nobility. So while the president can name his son Barron, he can't make him a baron,” Karlan said. Karlan testified alongside other legal experts as part of the impeachment probe into Trump. The focus of the Judiciary hearing, which came after the House Intelligence Committee had hearings in late November, is to define the grounds for a presidential impeachment.
