Amid his questioning on the first day of public hearings by the House Judiciary Committee of the impeachment inquiry, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., said the process was the “will of the people.” “Some of my colleagues suggested that impeachment would overturn the will of the people. The American people expressed their will in November of 2018. The will of the people elected a new majority. The will of the people elected a House that would not function as a wholly owned subsidiary of this administration,” Jeffries said. Noah Feldman, a Harvard law professor, Pamela S. Karlan, a Stanford law professor, Michael Gerhardt, a University of North Carolina law professor, and Jonathan Turley, a George Washington University law professor, testified before the committee on Dec. 4. It was the first day of public hearings by the House Judiciary Committee as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.
