During arguments in the Senate impeachment trial, Rep. Val Demings, a House manager, laid out phone records between President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani and the White House, as well as messages between Giuliani and his associate, Lev Parnas. Demings argued that the communications indicated that Trump knew about Giuliani and Parnas’ efforts to oust the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch. Democrats have said Trump wanted her removed because she would have opposed his desire to investigate the Bidens. House managers have been allowed 24 hours over the course of three days to present their case. The White House will then make its defense. The House of Representatives impeached the president in December on two articles — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The trial will determine whether Trump is convicted of those charges and removed from office, or acquitted.
