YouTube Description
as posted by the channelSen. Mike Braun, R-In. on May 12 asked National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci whether he would approach the U.S. coronavirus response in the same way he did the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, using a “formal, clearly defined treatment review pathway.” In response, Fauci said “there is somewhat of an analogy” between his response to treating patients with the HIV virus with drugs outside of a clinical trial and what is currently being done by the FDA, which is implementing emergency use authorizations for certain therapeutics that may be successful in treating some COVID-19 patients. FDA Commissioner said it has done so for COVID-19 therapeutics on three separate occasions, and continues to monitor those requests as they come in.
Leading U.S. health officials on Tuesday appeared before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions to answer questions about safely reopening schools and workplaces. In addition to Dr. Fauci, Centers on Disease Control and Prevention Direct Robert Redfield, Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn and Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services for Health Adm. Brett Giroir also spoke before the committee.
