2:51Now PlayingAs the number of deaths from the coronavirus pandemic continues to tick up, Vice President Mike Pence praised the Trump administration's handling of COVID-19, saying, "From the very first day, President Trump has put the health of America first."
During the first and only vice presidential debate between Pence and California Sen. Kamala Harris on Oct. 7, the vice president asserted that the Trump administration acted quickly to shut down travel from China after the coronavirus had begun to spread. He argued that the suspension of travel early on in the pandemic "saved hundreds of thousands of American lives."
Without evidence, Pence also accused Biden of plagiarizing Trump's COVID-19 response plan in planning his own coronavirus policy proposals. The Trump administration has faced fierce criticism for its delayed and inconsistent response to the pandemic. Pence and Harris met face-to-face for their first debate hosted by the University of Utah in Salt Lake City with less than a month until voting concludes.
