7:17Now PlayingSen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., gave opening remarks March 21 as the Senate Judiciary Committee kicked off its Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. He noted that when he asked Jackson in a meeting why she wants to be a justice, she said it was the "pinnacle" of her profession.
“[Your nomination is] probably putting within reach for many young boys and girls, young men and women the reality that they too someday could be here before the Senate being considered for confirmation to the highest court in the land. So you're not only fulfilling your dreams. You're making the dreams of others appear to be within reach,” Tillis said, addressing Jackson.
Jackson was nominated by President Joe Biden in February to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. If confirmed, she will be the first Black woman on the high court.
