YouTube Description
as posted by the channelRep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., gave a closing statement on June 23 as the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack presented its findings to the public.
After commended the three witnesses at the committee’s fifth hearing, Cheney then made a broader statement to Americans who put their trust in Trump.
“It can be difficult to accept that President Trump abused your trust, that he deceived you. Many will invent excuses to ignore that fact. But that is a fact. I wish it weren't true. But it is,” she said.
She noted that many of the hearings’ witnesses have been Republicans providing testimony on what led to the Jan. 6th attack, including conservatives and those who worked under the Trump administration.
The hearing, the fifth of several planned by the Jan. 6 committee, focused on Trump’s pressure on the Department of Justice to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. In the year since its creation, the committee has conducted more than 1,000 interviews, seeking critical information and documents from people witness to, or involved in, the violence that day.
