as posted by the channelThe Food and Drug Administration said thousands of monkeypox vaccine doses could soon come to the U.S. from overseas. This comes as experts say the current vaccine supplies are unable to keep up with demand.
About 1,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported in the U.S. During a July 14 conversation with the PBS NewsHour's William Brangham, David C. Harvey, executive director of the National Coalition of STD Directors, said the American public health system is not equipped to meet the needs of this disease. Monkeypox is not technically an STD, or a sexually transmitted disease, but it is known to be passed by sex and sex-like contact.
"This latest infectious disease outbreak is also revealing the fact that we don't have an adequate public health system when it comes to dealing with sexually transmitted infections," Harvey said.
