The airport now has a Travelers with Disabilities Advisory Committee and offers a variety of services to help make the airport more accessible.
Once a month, people with special needs can tour the airport to get familiar with the air travel process as part of the program called Navigating MSP.
During the tour, people can sit inside a mock airplane cabin that Delta donated to MSP last year.
More than 1300 families have gone through the tours.
“It’s acknowledging that we’re travelers too. And we want to have the same easy experience as everybody else,” said Maggie Willie, who took a tour with her service dog, Pastel.
The airport also provides lanyards that alert staff to travelers with hidden disabilities and free access to an app to help people with low vision or blindness navigate the terminal independently.
