WATCH: ‘Ukraine is alive and kicking,’ Zelenskyy tells joint meeting of U.S. Congress

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told a joint meeting of Congress on Wednesday that, despite a 10-month long ongoing Russian invasion, Ukraine has continued to survive. “Ukraine didn't fall. Ukraine is alive and kicking,” Zelenskyy said before a joint session of Congress.

He said that Ukraine had “defeated Russia in the battle for the minds of the world” and called it a “joint victory” with the United States.

“Ukraine gained this victory and it gives us courage which inspires the entire world. Americans gained this victory, and that's why you have succeeded in uniting the global community to protect freedom and international law,” Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine stood in solidarity with other nations threatened by Russia and said the Russian people would also be free “only when they defeat the Kremlin in their minds.”

“The battle continues, and we have to defeat the Kremlin on the battlefield,” Zelenskyy said. "The battle is not only for life, freedom and security of Ukrainians or any other nation, which Russia attempts to conquer. The struggle will define in what world our children and grandchildren will live.”

Zelenskyy arrived at the joint meeting to a standing ovation. Earlier in the day, he met with President Joe Biden at the White House and they held a joint news briefing. This is the first time Zelenskyy has left Ukraine since Russia invaded the country in February, devastating the country’s infrastructure and resulting in millions of refugees.

The United States and other allies have provided billions in dollars in military support and humanitarian aid, most recently a Patriot surface-to-air missile system and about $45 billion in emergency assistance to Ukraine.
