On June 12, 1963, Medgar Evers – a pioneering civil rights activist - was killed by a white supremacist outside his home in Jackson, Mississippi. His murder thrust Myrlie Evers into the national spotlight, and she became a freedom fighter in her own right.
Reid spoke to the PBS NewsHour’s Geoff Bennett about the relationship between Medgar Evers’ widow, Myrlie, and the late Coretta Scott King and Betty Shabazz-- the widows of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.
