Alabama Sen. Katie Britt delivered the Republican response to President Joe Biden’s March 7 State of the Union address, calling Biden a “dithering and diminished leader.”

“Just ask yourself: Are you better off now than you were three years ago?” Britt asked from her kitchen table.

In a speech that criticized Biden’s immigration orders, highlighted inflation and took aim at the administration’s foreign policies, Britt pitched the Republican view of the nation’s future.

The Alabama Republican also played defense on in vitro fertilization, which has been in the spotlight recently after Alabama’s Supreme Court ruled frozen embryos should be considered people, a decision that affected IVF services.

“We are the party of hard working parents and families, and we want to give you and your children opportunities to thrive. And we want families to grow,” Britt said. “It's why we strongly support continued nationwide access to in vitro fertilization. We want to help loving moms and dads bring precious life into this world.”

Britt’s response came moments after Biden finished his address to Congress. Biden is seeking reelection against likely Republican nominee former President Donald Trump, whom Britt did not mention in her speech. The State of the Union also comes five months into a deadly war on Gaza and just more than two years after Russia invaded Ukraine – both foreign wars that have tested his relationship with allies and Congress. This is Biden’s third State of the Union address and the last of this term.
