7:29Now PlayingThe Senate voted Wednesday to dismiss the second article of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
The article charged Mayorkas with a “breach of trust” for telling Congress that the border was secure. The vote was 51-49, along party lines.
After nearly three hours of proceedings, and with both articles against Mayorkas dismissed, the Senate then adjourned the trial against the DHS head over his handling of the border.
Throughout the proceedings, Senate Republicans called for a full trial and condemned Democrats for moving toward a speedy dismissal.
The Republican-led House of Representatives impeached Mayorkas by a narrow vote in February.
