6:16Now PlayingIn his speech accepting the nomination for president at the Republican National Convention, former President Donald Trump incorrectly claimed an invasion is taking place on the southern U.S. border and exaggerated his record in office on issues of immigration and trafficking.
"We stopped the invasion. But the invasion that we stopped was peanuts by comparison to what happened after I left," Trump said. "They took over our country. We ended all catch and release. We shut down asylum fraud. We stopped human trafficking and forged historic agreements to keep illegal aliens on foreign soil."
"We become a dumping ground for the rest of the world," Trump said. "They think we're stupid and they can't believe that they're getting away with what they're getting away with, but they're not going to be getting away with it for long. That's what I can tell you."
Throughout the week, Republican elected officials, party leaders, celebrities and voters have taken the stage to speak in support of Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance. They also adopted a party platform. Trump’s address is his first formal public remarks since an assassination attempt against him last weekend at a rally in Pennsylvania.
