5:02Now PlayingRep. Pat Fallon, R-Texas, questioned Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle in a House Oversight hearing Monday on the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“Director Cheatle, under your leadership, your agency got outsmarted and outmaneuvered by a 20-year-old,” Fallon said, referring to the suspected gunman. “How can we have any confidence that you can stop a trained professional from a foreign nation state?”
Fallon cited intel from U.S. authorities that there was an Iranian plot to kill Trump, an increased security threat to the former president before the campaign rally. Fallon echoed other lawmakers’ concerns that the director didn’t adequately establish security measures ahead of the event.
