5:58Now PlayingRep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., questioned Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle in a House Oversight hearing Monday on the July 13 attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Goldman questioned Cheatle whether it was a failure not to “secure the roof” from which a gunman fired on Trump.
Cheatle said the rooftop was provided with “overwatch,” meaning there was a Secret Service agent watching the roof from a higher position.
“I believe at this time, the rooftop was provided overwatch. I acknowledge that we are unaware at this time how the individual was able to access the roof,” Cheatle said.
Goldman asked whether it was a “failure” to prevent the gunman from accessing the roof. Cheatle said they did not yet have information about the roof access.
“I don’t have the timeline of how the individual accessed the roof, where they accessed the roof or how long they were on the roof,” she said.
