6:56Now PlayingSen. John Kennedy, R-La., questioned U.S. Secret Service acting director Ronald Rowe and FBI deputy director Paul Abbate in a hearing Tuesday.
Kennedy first confirmed with Abbate that it was not a "space laser," "murder hornet," or "Sasquatch," but in fact a bullet, fired by a shooter, that injured former President Donald Trump in the ear during his campaign rally.
"It was a bullet," Abbate said.
Kennedy then repeatedly questioned Rowe about when Secret Service snipers saw the shooter on the roof. Rowe denied reports that snipers saw him 20 minutes prior to the shooting.
The joint hearing of the Senate Homeland Security and Senate Judiciary Committee was the latest to examine what investigators have learned about the shooter who attempted to assassinate Trump at a Pennsylvania campaign rally, as well as the security failures that preceded the deadly shooting.
Rowe, who since 2023 had been serving as deputy director of the Secret Service, was appointed acting director after Kimberly Cheatle’s resignation.
