3:34Now PlayingLt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, D-Minn., spoke Monday at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where Kamala Harris will step into the spotlight not as a running mate but at the top of the ticket.
During the convention, delegates will adopt a party platform, and Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will formally accept the Democratic nominations for president and vice president.
Flanagan, a citizen of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe, is poised to take over as Minnesota’s governor should Walz step down to become the vice president. If the Democratic ticket wins, Flanagan would become the first Native woman to lead a U.S. state.
