1:03Now PlayingFormer president Donald Trump said the legal charges against him were started for political reasons.
“Every one of those cases was started by them against their political opponent and I’m winning most of them, and I will win the rest on appeal,” Trump said. “I’m winning most of them, but those are cases, it’s called weaponization. Never happened in this country. They weaponized the Justice Department.” Trump faces dozens of felony charges and most of his cases are unresolved. Many of his legal cases are tied up after a Supreme Court decision granting immunity to U.S. Presidents for their official acts.
Trump said President Joe Biden was “essential guilty” in his handling of classified documents which resulted in no criminal charges against Biden.
“They’re the ones that made them go after me,” Trump said. “They used it to try and win an election. They’re fake cases.” Two criminal cases against Trump, in Georgia and New York, were brought by state prosecutors with no ties to the Department of Justice. The Biden administration has maintained that Biden has no influence over the DOJ’s activities.
According to the latest PBS News/NPR/Marist poll, more than two-thirds of Americans say they will watch all or most of the debate. While many voters have already made up their minds, 14 percent of Americans say the debate will have a great impact on which candidate they choose.
