0:38Now PlayingHurricane Francine slammed into southern Louisiana Wednesday as a Category 2 storm with wind speeds of 100 mph. Francine pounded New Orleans and surrounding areas with heavy rain and winds, causing widespread flooding and leaving thousands without power. Francine saturated the wider Gulf Coast with up to six inches of rain. In Alabama and Florida, up to 10 inches was expected.
There were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries following Francine’s landfall but officials warned residents to remain in shelter until damage could be assessed. By midday Thursday, Francine had been downgraded to a tropical depression.
