2:18Now PlayingVice President Kamala Harris said during an interview Tuesday that she had spoken to Republican presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump to check that he was OK after an apparent assassination attempt over the weekend at his golf club in Florida.
Harris, speaking with members of the National Association of Black Journalists in Philadelphia, reaffirmed that "there is no place for political violence" in a democracy.
"We can and should have healthy debates and discussion and disagreements, but not resort to violence to resolve those issues.”
Harris was also asked if she and her family feel safe with her Secret Service protection. She said she did, but listed a number of communities and demographic groups around the country who she said don't have that protection and who don't feel safe.
The Democratic presidential nominee participated in a conversation with Gerren Keith Gaynor of theGrio, Eugene Daniels of POLITICO and Tonya Mosley of WHYY’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross and Tonya Mosley.
Trump appeared in July at NABJ's annual conference in Chicago to answer questions from journalists.
