How Judy Woodruff and PBS Crossroads producers put together a town hall for TV

PBS News' special project America at a Crossroads with long-time journalist and special correspondent, Judy Woodruff, is the product of nearly two years of work from Woodruff and the Crossroads team. For the series, which airs on PBS every other week, they traveled across America to talk to voters about the political polarization in the country.

Alongside the regular series, Woodruff wanted to host a town hall featuring around 50 Wisconsinites. The town hall in Milwaukee took months to set up, with six producers and one director from PBS News helping pull the piece together.

"I wanted a town hall somewhere in the middle of America where we could put people in a room and have them talking to each other, talking across the divide, if you will, explaining how they're feeling ahead of this election," Woodruff said. "It's just been a succession of phone calls, long conversations with people that have gone back over the last several months."
