2:29Now PlayingMultiple "security failures" by the U.S. Secret Service allowed a gunman to open fire in an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally, Rep. Mike Kelly said Thursday.
On July 13, a gunman scaled a roof and opened fire on Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The former president was injured in the ear and an attendee, Corey Comperatore, was killed.
The failures "led to a dysfunctional security situation that took the life of Mr. Comperatore, injured two others and nearly claimed the former president's life," Kelly said.
Kelly is the Republican co-chair of a bipartisan House committee investigating the assassination attempts on Trump. The bipartisan panel presented its findings to the public for the first time at a hearing Thursday.
During its two-month investigation, the panel found that the Secret Service failed to shut down public access to the areas next to the rally site and did not have clear lines of communication with local law enforcement.
The panel is also investigating the apparent assassination attempt of Trump from earlier this month at a Florida golf course.
