1:12Now PlayingThe United States should produce more solar panels, build nuclear power plants and produce more natural gas -- a fossil fuel -- to combat climate change, Sen. JD Vance said during the vice presidential debate with Gov. Tim Walz on Tuesday.
“A lot of [solar panels] are being made overseas in China, especially the components that go into the solar panels. So if you really want to make the environment cleaner, you've got to invest in more energy production,” Vance said.
“We haven't built a nuclear facility, I think one in the past 40 years. Natural gas, we got to invest more in it.”
Vance and Walz are facing each other in their first, and possibly last, vice presidential debate, hosted by CBS in New York on Oct. 1.
Both are relatively unknown to the broader American public. Walz was a U.S. House member before becoming governor of Minnesota. Vance is in his first term as a senator from Ohio.
