as posted by the channelPresident Joe Biden said Thursday that he spoke with President-elect Donald Trump following the Republican nominee's 2024 election victory this week and assured him that the White House will work with Trump's team to "ensure a peaceful and orderly transition."
The Associated Press called the race for Trump early Wednesday morning.
The president also said he spoke with Vice President Kamala Harris, the 2024 Democrat presidential nominee, yesterday.
"She's been a partner and a public servant. She ran an inspiring campaign, and everyone got to see something that I learned early on to respect so much -- her character," Biden said. "She gave her whole heart and effort, and she and her team should be proud of the campaign they ran."
Biden also acknowledged both the feelings of victory for those who supported Trump and loss for Harris supporters.
"Campaigns are contests of competing visions. The country chooses one or the other, and we accept the choice the country made," he said. "I've said many times [that] you can't love your country only when you win [and] you can't love your neighbor only when you agree."
The president praised the election as "honest," "fair" and "transparent" and thanked election workers for "protecting the very integrity of the election."
