1:27Now PlayingLouisiana Rep. Mike Johnson won the role of House speaker Friday on the first ballot. But the vote was not without some drama.
In the initial count of the vote, Johnson fell two short of the 218 votes needed to become House speaker again. As PBS News' Lisa Desjardins reports, Johnson and his staff had to convince Reps. Ralph Norman of South Carolina and Keith Self of Texas to change their votes to get the job.
Republicans hold a slim four-seat majority in the chamber. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, a Democrat representing parts of Brooklyn, New York, received 215 votes, while Republican Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota receive a single vote.
