3:52Now PlayingThe U.S. Navy conducted a missing man formation flyover in honor of the late President Jimmy Carter's Navy service and his time as commander-in-chief.
Carter graduated from the Naval Academy in 1946 and reached the rank of lieutenant. He served until 1953, when he was honorably discharged.
Earlier in the day, a state funeral service was held at the Washington National Cathedral in the nation's capital, where Carter was eulogized by family, friends and President Joe Biden. He will be interred at his family estate in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. The flyover and burial Thursday cap a long farewell that began — and ends — in Plains. Carter died Dec. 29 at age 100.
