7:04Now PlayingSen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, asked defense secretary nominee Pete Hegseth during his confirmation hearing Tuesday to respond "to a few examples of the Biden woke military."
“One of the most disgraceful and shameful things I've seen over the past four years as a senator on this committee and as a Marine Corps reserve officer was on Day One, the Biden administration played up a false and insulting narrative that our military was chock full of racist and violent extremists," Sullivan said.
Sulivan was referring to a report in early 2021 that suggested the military had an issue with extremists in its ranks and did not know the extent of the problem. Hegseth argued that the report was incorrect and agreed with Sullivan that it was a “false narrative” supported by the media.
Hegseth is a military veteran and conservative media personality. President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for defense secretary has faced allegations of sexual misconduct and excessive drinking, and been criticized as a nominee for his controversial views on diversity and religion in the military.
