as posted by the channelSecretary of state nominee Sen. Marco Rubio said President-elect Donald Trump should not face criticism for his family business ties to foreign nations, but instead should be judged on whether his actions are in the national interest.
“The president's made abundantly clear that every decision he makes and every decision we are to make at the State Department should be driven by whether or not it serves the the core national interests of the United States,” Rubio said at his confirmation hearing Wednesday before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
“That's how I hope our policies will be judged by, not what business his family is conducting while the president is here in Washington,” he said.
Rubio, the senior senator from Florida, was also a one-time Republican presidential hopeful who ran against Trump. A former member of the Senate panel holding his confirmation hearing, Rubio also serves on the Select Committee on Intelligence.
