2:11Now PlayingSen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., questioned U.S. attorney general nominee Pam Bondi in a confirmation hearing Wednesday held by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The ranking member brought up the Jan. 6 insurrection and how the mob of Donald Trump supporters and alt-right groups, such as the Proud Boys, violently attacked police officers at the U.S. Capitol.
Durbin said Trump has signaled possible presidential pardons for those charged or convicted of assaulting police officers on Jan. 6. The senator asked Bondi if she can understand why some members of Congress would “view this with an outrage.”
“I do not agree with violence against anyone, but especially police officers,” she said. “They deserve to be safe, and I do not agree with violence against any police officer.”
Bondi is a former Florida attorney general and has been a longtime ally of President-elect Donald Trump. This is the first of two hearings the committee has scheduled for the nominee.
