YouTube Description
as posted by the channelSen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., questioned U.S. attorney general nominee Pam Bondi in a confirmation hearing Wednesday held by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Klobuchar said attorneys general of both parties have established “clear policies” to make sure the White House doesn’t tamper with criminal investigations and prosecutions.
Bondi said she believes that the Justice Department “must be independent and must act independently.”
“The No. 1 job is to enforce the law fairly and evenhandedly, and that's what will be done if I am confirmed as the attorney general,” she added.
When Klobuchar asked for assurance that the agency will “only follow the facts and the law,” and the White House wouldn’t play a role in investigations, Bondi said “politics will not play a part.”
“I've demonstrated that my entire career as a prosecutor, as attorney general, and I will continue to do that if you confirm me as the 87th attorney general of the United States of America,” she said.
Bondi is a former Florida attorney general and has been a longtime ally of President-elect Donald Trump. This is the first of two hearings the committee has scheduled for the nominee.
