as posted by the channelSen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, questioned Doug Burgum, nominee for secretary of the interior, in a confirmation hearing Thursday held by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
Lee asked Burgum how he would improve public transparency about the true financial value of federal land. Burgum talked about these lands as America’s “balance sheet,” and suggested asking every agency and department to figure out the asset value of everything owned by the United States.
Burgum is a former corporate executive and governor of North Dakota who championed oil and gas drilling. President-elect Donald Trump has also tapped him to lead the new National Energy Council.
