Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California said his party has an opportunity to focus on the future as Trump sells what he called "American nostalgia."
"The reality is, though, Donald Trump is offering 19th and 20th century solutions. He's talking about manifest destiny, of imperial expansion. He's talking about drilling oil and gas," Khanna said in an interview with PBS News Hour's Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett. "I understand why people are upset. They see a stagnant country. We have to sell them the future, that we really have a way of building and transforming this country."
When asked about tech CEOs and owners like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and Tim Cook having front-row seats at Trump's inauguration, Khanna said they were there to look out for their own business interests.
"The moral leadership is going to have to come from the grassroots of the country, from the Democratic Party," Rep. Khanna said. "I don't think we can be looking to business leaders to be doing anything other than maximizing their own shareholder profits."
