YouTube Description
as posted by the channelSen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., argued Wednesday that the United States needs a labor secretary who will “stand up for the working families of our country” in the face of a “an economy that's working well for the billionaire class.” Sanders spoke in an opening statement Wednesday at the confirmation hearing for Lori Chavez-DeRemer to be President Donald Trump’s labor secretary.
“Sixty percent of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. I grew up in a family living paycheck to paycheck. That ain't easy. Stress level, enormous,” said Sanders, the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.
Sanders said it was imperative that the next labor secretary “be a champion of working families” and not ambiguous about their support.
Chavez-DeRemer, a former mayor and Oregon congresswoman, was raised in a Teamsters family and has strong backing from labor groups. Her union-friendly stance has been a point of contention among her fellow Republicans.
