Al Green, D-Texas, said Tuesday that his removal from the House chamber during President Donald Trump's address to Congress was "worth it to let people know that there are some of us who are going to stand up" to the president's proposed cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security.
Shortly after Trump began to speak Tuesday night, Green started to yell from his seat.
"I was making it clear to the president that he has no mandate to cut Medicaid," Green told reporters after he was removed from the chamber at the direction of House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La.
"I have people who are very fearful. These are poor people, and they have only Medicaid in their lives when it comes to their health care. And I want him to know that his budget calls for deep cuts in Medicaid," he added.
"This president is unfit. He should not hold the office. Thirty-four felony convictions, two times impeached," Green said.
