1:12Now PlayingWhite House press secretary Karoline Leavitt declined to answer questions about President Donald Trump's threat to remove Harvard's tax-exempt status on Tuesday, deferring the issue to the IRS.
Trump suggested Tuesday that Harvard should lose its tax-exempt status after the university refused to implement a list of demands from the administration to curb alleged antisemitism on campus, report conduct violations by foreign students and have an outside party oversee hiring. The University said it would not "surrender its independence."
"Perhaps Harvard should lose its Tax Exempt Status and be Taxed as a Political Entity if it keeps pushing political, ideological, and terrorist inspired/supporting 'Sickness?'" Trump said on in a post on Truth Social.
Trump's threat comes after the federal government announced it's freezing more than $2.2 billion in grants and $60 million in contracts to the institution.
