Higher fertilizer prices and drier weather in West Africa, where the majority of cocoa beans are produced, have caused cocoa prices to surge 90 percent since the start of 2024.Bird flu outbreaks, chicken culling and new laws mandating cage-free eggs have caused eggs to hit an all time high price average of $6.23 per dozen in March. Cost-conscious people on social media are now dying baby potatoes and marshmallows or even painting rocks as cost-conscious alternatives to real eggs.
