as posted by the channelCrowds cheered as white smoke emerged from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel Thursday, indicating a new pope has been elected to lead the Catholic Church. The smoke means two-thirds of the 133 cardinals reached an agreement on who should succeed Pope Francis, who died on April 21. The name of the next pontiff will then be announced before the new pope is expected to appear from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica.
