as posted by the channelSen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., asked Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. if health care is a human right and “are we making America healthy when so many people cannot afford to go to a doctor?”
Kennedy, an environmental lawyer, argued health care is not something that is enshrined in the Constitution because "health care costs your neighbor money." Sanders pressed him on the issue.
“Every other country guarantees health care as a right,” Sanders said. “Should we, as Americans?”
Kennedy said Americans want choice and prefer private insurance to other forms of health insurance, but Sanders maintained that Americans “don’t want the choice to die because they don’t get to a doctor on time.”
Kennedy was speaking Wednesday before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions as Congress considers the Trump administration's budget request for his agency.
