Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-TX, expressed concern about the lack of training for military personnel deployed to the southern border during a House appropriations hearing on the 2026 budget Thursday.

"I need to publicly express again my profound concern and alarm at the administration's decision to use military assets, military installations and now active duty military for border enforcement," she said.

During the hearing, Escobar asked Acting Commissioner for U.S. Customs and Border Protection Pete Flores about the amount of training the military has before acting as enforcement officers at the U.S.-Mexico border.

"I don't know how much training DoD does," Flores said.

"It's literally only hours, a few hours," Escobar responded.
