1:25Now PlayingVice President JD Vance encouraged this year's graduating class at the U.S. Naval Academy to begin their service "with a spirit of gratitude."
"You, all of you, are the product of an incredible legacy," Vance noted during his address Friday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md. "Be thankful for all the people gathered here today, and those who aren’t, because they made you who you are and they got you to where you are today."
Vance, who served for four years after high school in the U.S. Marine Corps, said he hoped the graduates centered a sense of duty from that gratitude.
"You owe it to the American people, to yourselves, but most of all, to the people who sacrificed so hard to get you here," he said. "You owe it to them to do the best job you can, and I know that it's exactly what you’re going to do.
