2:01Now PlayingThe largest digital camera ever built has released its first snapshots of the universe, showing stars, nebulas and galaxies.
The Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile captured high-resolution images of the Trifid and Lagoon nebulas, thousands of light-years from Earth, and a sweeping view a cluster of galaxies known as the Virgo Cluster.
The observatory, funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and U.S. Department of Energy, will survey the southern sky every three nights for the next decade.
