2:15Now PlayingThe Supreme Court handed President Donald Trump a major victory Friday, with the conservative majority ruling that federal judges lack authority to grant nationwide injunctions on the president’s executive order ending birthright citizenship.
In the 6-3 decision, the justices did not weigh in on the constitutionality of Trump’s order, which would deny citizenship to U.S.-born children of people in the U.S. illegally. The ruling does leave open the possibility of the order to go into effect in the 28 states that didn’t challenge the order.
Attorney General Pam Bondi joined the president in a news conference following the high court’s decision Friday, celebrating the court win.
The attorney general said the constitutionality of Trump’s order on birthright citizenship will likely be decided in October, the start of the Supreme Court’s new term, adding that the Department of Justice is “very confident” in the high court.
