as posted by the channelHouse Republicans celebrated after lawmakers in the chamber passed President Donald Trump’s big tax and spending cuts legislation on Thursday, paving the way for the president to sign it into law on the Fourth of July.
“We had a vision for what we wanted to do as a group,” Speaker Mike Johnson said during a news conference with House Republicans on Capitol Hill, following the bill’s passage. “We believed in the election cycle last fall that we were going to be given this great blessing of unified government. … We did not want to waste that opportunity because we understand the history that comes along with it.”
As Johnson signed the bill, sending it to Trump for his signature or veto, the song “YMCA” by the Village People played in the room. Trump used “YMCA” during his campaign events last year, and the Village People performed at his pre-inauguration festivities earlier this year.
The White House said Trump plans to sign the bill at 5 p.m. EDT on Friday, July 4.
