YouTube Description
as posted by the channelPresident Donald Trump is calling on the Washington Commanders to revert the team to its former name, threatening to scuttle plans for a new stadium in Washington, D.C., if that doesn't happen.
In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump said "The Washington “Whatever’s” should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team.”
He added that if the team doesn’t comply, “I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington.”
Trump also demanded the Cleveland Guardians revert back to being called the Indians. The Commanders and Guardians changed their names in 2020 and 2021, respectively, after years of criticism that the monikers were racist towards Indigenous people.
It isn’t clear what means Trump has to stop the Commander’s stadium, as Congress gave the city control over the land for the proposed development last December. D.C.'s city council is now in the development phase of the project.
