1:56Now PlayingPresident Donald Trump has falsely claimed that the United States is the only country in the world that uses mail-in voting.
“We are now the only Country in the World that uses Mail-In Voting,” Trump wrote on social media. "All others gave it up because of the MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD ENCOUNTERED."
Many countries use mail-in ballots, including Australia and Canada. The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, a Swedish organization that advocates for democracy globally, found in October 2024 that 34 countries or territories allow some form of mail-in voting.
Trump said Monday that his administration is preparing an executive order to "end mail-in ballots." Researchers say that while there is a greater possibility for fraud with mail-in ballots, it is rare and election officials have safeguards in place to protect against it.
PolitiFact's Ellen Hine takes a closer look at Trump's claim and voting by mail.
